Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an account to play GridPaw games?

No. All six GridPaw games — Shikaku, Akari, Kakuro, Nonogram, Nurikabe and Pictomino — are fully playable without signing in. Progress is saved automatically in your browser. An optional Google sign-in exists only in Akari Daily and Pictomino, where it enables cloud streak sync and the leaderboard.

Are the games free to play?

Yes, every game is free, runs entirely in your browser, and needs no download. Hints come with a free allowance per level in Shikaku, Kakuro, Nonogram and Nurikabe, and are unlimited in Akari.

Which games are the classic Japanese logic puzzles?

Shikaku, Akari, Kakuro, Nonogram and Nurikabe all follow the classic Nikoli rules — GridPaw adds cat visuals and unlimited procedurally generated boards. Pictomino is a different spatial reasoning game for kids: a cat photo cut into pieces that you rebuild by logic.

Where do the daily puzzles live?

Each game has a daily cadence: Shikaku and Akari on the Daily Challenge page, and Kakuro, Nonogram and Nurikabe switch to date-seeded daily puzzles after their campaign, so everyone worldwide gets the same board on the same day. Pictomino has a separate Daily Challenge page.
