Witness Statements
No two figures share a row or column. The suspect alone in the victim's room is the killer.
How to Play Murder Sudoku
Murder sudoku is a hybrid of two classics: the row-and-column discipline of sudoku and the deduction of a whodunit. Each case gives you a mansion floor plan carved into named rooms, a cast of suspects, and a set of witness statements. Every statement is true — your job is to work out where each suspect was standing when the body was found.
- Place the suspects. Select a suspect from the tray, then tap a room cell to place them. No two figures can share a row or a column — the same sudoku rule you already know.
- Read the statements. Each witness gives exactly one testimony: where they were, what they were standing on, who they were with, or which room was empty. All of them are true.
- Find the killer. The suspect who ends up alone in the room with the victim is the murderer. When every suspect is placed, hit Accuse! to close the case.
Start with a 4×4 Easy case to learn the flow of deduction, then move up to 6×6 Tricky for longer chains of reasoning.
Deduction Tips
Start with the room statements
Statements like "Mochi was in the Library" or "The Cellar was locked — nobody inside" eliminate the most cells. Place what you know first, and the row and column rule will squeeze the remaining suspects into fewer and fewer legal cells.
Use the sudoku rule aggressively
Because no two figures share a row or column, every placement immediately eliminates an entire row and column. A suspect pinned to one room often has only one legal cell left once the neighbors are placed.
Watch the victim's room
The room holding the victim contains exactly two figures: the victim and the killer. Room-count statements about that room are usually the fastest route to identifying the murderer.
